A monument erected to the memory of Dedan Kimathi, born Kimathi wa Waciuri at the junction of Kimathi and Mama Ngina Streets in Central Nairobi. A Kenyan revolutionary and leader of the Kenya Land and Freedom Army (known as the Mau Mau) was captured in 1956 and executed by the British authorities in 1957 at the age of 36 and then buried in an unmarked grave. This monument to Dedan Kimathi was only erected in 2007.
